Transforming Bungalows with Steel Frame First-Storey Extension in County Meath
At Shanette Steel Frames, we are proud to showcase our latest project: a steel frame first-storey extension in County Meath that has transformed an existing bungalow into a modern, spacious home. This project highlights our expertise in steel frame construction and also demonstrates the efficiency and quality of our prefabrication methods and off-site construction .
Ground Floor Transformation
We began by adding a ground floor extension to the original bungalow. This new section, measuring 21m x 5m, was constructed using our LGS steel frames in both the exterior and interior walls as well as the roof trusses. The exterior was finished using a combination of Standing seam façade and Kilsaran render system, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing exterior finish.
Installing the First-Storey Extension
To make way for the first-storey extension, the original bungalow’s roof was removed, and a pre-cast hollow core slab was installed. This slab forms the foundation for the upper-level extension, ensuring structural integrity and efficiency.
The upper-level extension, measuring 15m x 8m, includes three bedrooms, an ensuite, a bathroom, and a storeroom. The roof design is particularly noteworthy, featuring a complex steel structure with all truss’s, three dormer windows, and a flat roof at the rear. A vaulted ceiling with roof lights was also added over the stairway, enhancing the natural light and creating a spacious, airy feel.
Efficient Construction and Quality Materials
The external walls of the extension combine masonry with PIR insulation and the Kilsaran render system. Thanks to the prefabrication carried out at our Kilbeggan headquarters, the on-site construction time was remarkably short, taking our team just four days to complete the extension before the builder commenced exterior rendering.
Collaborative Effort
This project was a collaborative effort with Tom Foy Builders, and PJMastery Group Consulting Engineers. Their expertise and commitment to quality were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
Ongoing Updates
Tom Foy Builders have returned to the site to continue their work, and we are excited to share further updates as the project progresses.
