When you’re planning a new home, the layout matters just as much as the materials. Our recently installed 260m² steel frame house showcases what’s possible when smart design meets precision engineering, combining zoned family living, a bright central link, and the speed of modern construction.
Whether you’re building in a remote rural location or simply want to fast-track your timeline, steel frame construction gives you the design freedom you need without compromising on quality or energy performance.
Project at a Glance: 260m² H-Shaped Home
This new steel frame house, manufactured and installed by Shanette Steel Frames, features an H-shaped layout that’s fast becoming a favourite among rural homeowners in Ireland. With sleeping quarters on one side, and open-plan living on the other, the layout is linked by a central corridor designed to flood the home with natural light.
The result? A home that feels open, private, and practical, encouraging passive heating while supporting functional family flow.

Precision Engineering Meets On-Site Speed
Every steel frame house we manufacture is made to order, meaning the entire structural envelope is produced off-site at our facility in Kilbeggan before being delivered and installed. This significantly reduces site disruption, weather risk, and overall build time.
Built for Performance and Comfort
This project’s external walls will be finished with a Kilsaran External Wall Insulation (EWI) System, applied by the client’s builder. With this solution, the home is designed to achieve a U-value of 0.17 W/(m²K) — exceeding current building regulations and supporting long-term energy efficiency.
Why Choose an H-Shaped Layout?
- Zoned living: Bedrooms and living areas stay separate, supporting noise control and privacy.
- Natural light: Central corridor brings in light from both sides.
- Flexibility: Each “wing” can be customised around family needs — think home office, snug, guest space or playroom.
- Passive heating: Maximises solar gain when designed with orientation in mind.
