This 200m² three-bedroom steel frame home in Tullamore demonstrates how prefabricated steel frame construction can deliver speed, certainty, and long-term performance for modern housing projects.
Manufactured by Shanette Steel Frames, the structure was produced off-site using a prefabricated insulated steel frame system with 80mm PIR insulation. Detailed pre-planning and coordination at design stage ensured a smooth, efficient installation once the project reached site.
The external walls were constructed using System 1 of our wall build-up options, a hybrid steel frame system combining PIR insulation within the steel frame and a masonry outer leaf. This approach provides excellent thermal performance while allowing the client’s builder to complete traditional blockwork and render externally.
The Challenge
Following delivery, the insulated steel frame was erected on site within a matter of days, enabling the project to progress quickly to the next construction stages. The roof structure was installed soon after, with windows and doors fitted, allowing the building to become weather-tight at an early stage.
The external blockwork and final render were completed by the client’s appointed builder, highlighting the flexibility of Shanette’s steel frame systems to integrate seamlessly with local trades and preferred construction methods.
The Result
The result is a high-quality, energy-efficient family home that showcases the advantages of prefabrication: reduced build time, improved accuracy, and a clear, well-coordinated path from design through to completion.
