Shanette Steel Frames

We started this project by adding a ground floor extension to the original bungalow, measuring 21m x 5m. The exterior finish features a mixture of Standing seam façade and Kilsaran render system.

Next, the roof was removed from the original bungalow, and a pre-cast hollow core slab was put in place to allow our first-storey extension to be installed.

The Challenge

The client wanted to extend but didn’t have sufficient space on the ground floor. The solution was to build upwards.

The upper-level extension, measuring 15m x 8m, includes three bedrooms, an ensuite, a bathroom, and a storeroom. The complex steel roof included all trusses, with three dormer windows and a flat roof at the rear.

We also included a vaulted ceiling with roof lights over the stairway. The external wall uses both masonry walls with PIR insulation and the Kilsaran render system.

Innovative Solution

Thanks to forward-thinking and steel frame construction at our Kilbeggan headquarters, our client got the extension they dreamed of, and thanks to pre-fabrication at our factory in Kilbeggan, on-site construction time was minimised. The steel frame part of the extension took our team only four days to complete.

Working in partnership with Tom Foy Builders, Damian Foy, and PJMastery Group Consulting Engineers, we are extremely pleased with these results.

Tom Foy Builders are now back on-site, and we look forward to sharing their updates as we receive them.
